Highly-rated England Saxons prop Tom Mercey has played his last game for Saracens after he was ruled out for the season. Mercey is set to leave Sarries for Northampton in the summer - and ironically it was against the Saints that he suffered the season-ending injury. Scans have revealed that Mercey suffered a torn pectoral muscle in the LV=Cup semi-final defeat to Northampton.  

TOPEKA, Kan. Gov. Mark Parkinson appoints Securities Commmissioner Chris Biggs to be Secretary of State. Biggs will replace Ron Thornburgh, who resigned in February after accepting a position with NIC as senior vice-president of sales and marketing. According to its website, the Olathe-based company provides outsourced eGovernment portals, building and managing official government Web sites and eGovernment services for 23 states and hundreds of local governments in the United States.

The federal government announced Thursday that Illinois is among the 16 first-round finalists for a share of the $4.35 billion grant program known as Race to the Top. Winners will be announced in April. It is seeking $510 million.

SA Airways and its low cost equivalent SA Express on Tuesday denied allegations of price-fixing around the FIFA World Cup, but dismissed calls to slash fares during the month-long tournament. "I can say categorically that at no stage was SAA involved in discussions with any other airline competitor, or otherwise with regard to pricing around the World Cup," acting SAA CEO Chris Smyth told Parliament's portfolio committee on public enterprises. The Ohio Tea Party PAC, newly-formed political action committee of the Ohio Liberty Council, has endorsed state Rep. Seth Morgan , R-Huber Heights, for the Republican nomination for state auditor, Morgan's campaign announced on Friday, March 12. The Ohio Liberty Council is made up of Ohio's Tea Party groups, 912 groups and other grassroots organizations throughout the state, the campaign said. Morgan running for the GOP nomination against Delaware County Prosecutor Dave Yost .

Seniors in high school might already express opinions on Facebook or Twitter, but if they express an opinion in a letter to Gov. Chris Christie, telling him what he should do to improve education in New Jersey, they could win as much as $1,000. Dr. Ron Rotem, a Toms River dentist, together with Monmouth Academy of Howell, is sponsoring a contest for high school seniors in Monmouth and Ocean counties. The winner will receive $1,000.  

Ryan Phillippe is in talks to play Captain America. The 'Cruel Intentions' star confirmed he is to audition for the lead role in forthcoming superhero movie 'The First Avenger: Captain America' and is hoping he impresses film bosses enough to land the role of the crime fighter and his alter ego Steve Rogers. He told MTV News: "I actually am going in to meet on 'Captain America', which is kind of cool. After Superman, he was kind of my favourite."  

Two incumbents and one newcomer will run uncontested in the April 20 Board of Education election. Incumbents Kelly Yang and Jaymie Kosa are seeking re-election. Board member Linda Grayson decided not to run again. rincipal and interim Superintendent Shari Payson said Roosevelt Public School must present its proposed budget for approval to Monmouth County Executive Superintendent of Schools Carole K. Morris on March 22.
